Grass Season

Igor's grass court season began in Queen's Club where he failed to emulate last year's quarter final run, losing out in the 2nd round to Chris Guccione 6-4 6-4 after beating Brit Alan Mackin 7-5 4-6 6-3 in the 1st round.

The following week, he headed to Nottingham where he fell at the first hurdle to Queen's finalist Ivo Karlovic 6-4 6-4.

Wimbledon has faired somewhat better however. After coming through a tough test against 30th seed Robin Soderling 6-7 7-5 6-1 7-5 & defeating Davide Sanguinetti 6-4 6-2 3-6 6-3, Igor's run was ended by 2nd seed Andy Roddick 6-2 6-2 7-6 in a match which saw Igor pick up an abdominal injury. Let's hope its not too serious, as next week he is due to defend the points he gained from reaching the final in Gstaad last year, where he lost out to Roger Federer in 4 sets.

3 Week Round-Up

The past three weeks have not gone too well for Igor. After beating Jiri Vanek 6-1 6-2 in the first round in Munich on 25th of April, he has since not won a match :(

A 2nd round loss to Wayne Arthurs in Munich 4-6 7-6(5) 6-7(3), was followed by two disappointing 1st round defeats in the two clay court Masters Series events in Rome & Hamburg. Spaniard Nicolas Almagro was the victor in Rome 6-3 4-6 1-6, and Juan Monaco triumped over Igor in Hamburg, 6-2 6-7 (5-7) 6-1.

His next tournament will be in St. Poelten, Austria starting on May 16th, with the years second grand slam, Roland Garros, beginning the following week.

Let's hope Igor can get some good results in Austria before he hits Paris!

TMS Monte-Carlo: 1st Round

Igor lost out to Guillermo Canas in the first round of Monte-Carlo. :(

No. 9 seed Guillermo Canas also showed top form in his 7-6(10), 6-1 win over last week's champion in Valencia, Igor Andreev. The Argentine was able to convert four of six break opportunities in the one hour, 54 minute match.

........................................................................................................................

In better news, Igor's 'got the funk' on http://www.tennis-x.com this week.
